The Play’s the Thing

Love the stage? Acting, writing, or just theatre in general? Want to explore, create and develop theatrical work? You need to sign up for a workshop series taking place over eight Saturdays in November and December.

The Open Theatre Company have invited RCAT and FTLOL to take part. Improv, acting and production techniques will be explored. The starting point will be a period of collective creation. All participants will together, contributing ideas. This will be a truly collaborative process, birthing a play as well as building confidence and developing trust between participants and facilitators.

The first 4 (of 8) weeks will work on developing acting and production techniques.  Warmups and ‘ice-breaking’ techniques will lead into improvisational sessions. Playfulness will be an important part of these sessions. The group will decide on the nature of the piece and performance, as well as a suitable venue. Creative cues will be taken from the group, which will set the direction.

The final 4 weeks will be spent fine tuning the piece, through rehearsals and technical development (ie, set construction, sound and lighting design). Participants will be encouraged to follow their own interests and inspiration. Music, sketches or any other creative activity that feeds the inspiration and development of the production will be encouraged.

The workshop will run for 8 Saturdays, in November and December at the LSPU HALL. Contact whatsup@ftlol.org or call 722-8848 for more info and/or to sign up.
